These colourful figurines, popularly called as Mavale (Mavle or Mawale or मावळे), are used by children to decorate forts made of clay or other similar material during Diwali vacation.
The forts are made similar to the ones valiantly conquered and built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. These figurines represent the mighty Maratha King himself, Tanhaji and other key members and people of the Maratha empire.
This Mavale (मावळे) set, is a great pretend play activity to boost children’s creativity and visualization skills. Building forts and decorating them together with these figurines during Diwali is a very enriching and engaging experience for the children and their parents. Children also learn the glorious history of the Maratha empire of India in an interactive manner.
These figurines are made with hand by local artisans in Raigad District in the state of Maharashtra.
We at J. Dutta & Co. are extremely proud to support them through our website and store.
